Those in positions of authority who do not know how to serve often do not know how to truly lead. A service-oriented leadership culture needs to be engendered in young African leaders. For their personal development and growth, they must be afforded opportunities to avail themselves in service to others, using their skills to participate meaningfully in efforts that address specific socio-economic challenges in our communities. YBSA encourages its members to actively participate in initiatives where they are able to serve their communities through donation of their time and expertise.
"The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving." Albert Einstein
There are a number of local and international websites which focus on the non-profit community where our YBSA members can learn more about individual organisations who are in need of assistance. These include:
GivenGain represents verified non-profit organisations and affords activists the opportunity to identify causes within their scope of interest the ability to give advice, donate money or create and support campaigns for the registered non-profit organisations. The GivenGain Group was founded in July 2001 by two brothers inspired by the idea that "it is more blessed to give than to receive".
GivenGain’s motto is One World. Zero Barriers. They believe in a free trade of ideas, they fight against the perils of indifference and present a ripple of hope.
YBSA members form a huge pool of talent and expertise which is much needed by many non-profit organisations across Africa. When visiting Striving for Change, YBSA members are able to access portfolios of verified non-profit organisations across Africa who are in need of assistance.
The aim of Striving for Change is to link expertise and skills with those organisations that need those specific expertise and skills. Each non-profit organisation has a page on Striving for Change detailing their short term and long term needs, which will allow YBSA members to identify areas where their talents can be put to good use.
